COVINGTON COUNTY, Ala. (WSFA) - There’s new information on the work going on right now at one of the dams on Gantt Lake in Covington County.

Powersouth leaders initially thought the Alabama Department of Fisheries would restock the lake once the lake is refilled, but officials with the department of fisheries says the restocking won’t be necessary, because enough adult fish survived the drawdown to reproduce in the spring.

The fish are now in Point A Lake reservoir. Powersouth says the drawdown was required to make necessary maintenance repairs to the dam on the northern end of Gantt Lake.

The work on the dam should be completed by the end of this month. Powersouth believes the winter rains will be enough to refill the lake at “full pool” by the end of the year.
